2020 Jeep Cherokee vs Chevy Equinox

If you need a stylish and capable SUV to help you conquer your daily commutes around Wilsonville, Woodburn, and Portland, then both the 2020 Jeep Cherokee and Chevy Equinox will get the job done.

However, our team at Wilsonville CDJR wanted to see which one was best equipped to the needs of local drivers, so we put together this Jeep Cherokee vs. Chevy Equinox comparison.

Jeep Cherokee Engine Specs

Cherokee vs Equinox Powertrain

Let’s begin our comparison of the 2020 Jeep Cherokee and Chevy Equinox with a look under the hoods of these powerhouse SUVs.

Both have an available 2.0L turbo I-4 engine, which is great for those of you who want to feel the thrill of a turbocharger as you drive around town. Both SUVs also get up to an EPA-estimated 31 MPG highway with this engine. This efficiency may be due in-part to the available 9-speed automatic transmission that each SUV pairs with this engine.

You might get more of that kick you want with the Cherokee, though, which produces 270 horsepower with its turbocharged I-4 engine. The Equinox, on the other hand, only generates 252 horsepower.

This is the highest-output engine for the Equinox. The Cherokee, however, has other engines for you to pick from, including the 3.6L Pentastar® V6, which can tow up to 4,500 pounds when properly equipped.

Unfortunately, the Equinox’s towing capacity is 1,000 pounds less, maxing out at 3,500 pounds.

Driver-Assist Features

As you make your way through town in your SUV, it’s nice to know that you have smart systems working with you to help you reach your destination with safety and confidence. Both the Jeep Cherokee and Chevy Equinox offer a long list of driver-assist features designed to do just that.

Available features you’ll find in both vehicles include:

  • Forward collision mitigation with automatic emergency braking
  • Blind spot monitoring with rear cross path detection
  • Lane keeping and lane departure alerts
  • Rear view cameras with dynamic gridlines

They also both have an available smart cruise control feature. This automatically adjusts your cruise control speed to go with the flow of traffic when you approach slower-moving vehicles on the highway. With this smart technology, you can keep cruising along without having to constantly adjust your cruise control setting.

Both the Cherokee and Equinox also have available automatic high beams to help improve visibility during nighttime driving. These automatically toggle your high beams on and off based on traffic signals and oncoming vehicles.

This feature makes it so that you don’t have to manually adjust your high beams when another car approaches or when you get to a stop light.

While both new SUVs have high-tech systems in place while you’re on the move, only the Cherokee can help you dock your vehicle. With available Parallel Perpendicular Park Assist with Full Stop, your Jeep Cherokee will locate a parking space for you and guide you into place.

Simply follow the prompts to accelerate, brake, and shift, and allow your SUV to do the rest. Unfortunately, this isn’t a feature you’ll find in the Equinox.
